It is the main tag that tells search engines what your page will be about. There are some of my favorite images when i use many times in many articles with related topics. You'll want to choose the lowest possible quality without affecting the image you see in the preview. Some links are of the "nofollow" variety and is not really counted the search engine as an efficient backlink.
